Hi,

After a difficult time we have said goodbye to our builder last week. My other thread about the joint gaps between blocks (here) was just one of the many issues we were having.

He's packed up and gone on Friday we are left with a building site.

Luck/fate smiled and we have a very experienced bricklayer lined up. A retired chap who has laid bricks for decades. He agreed with everything that was mentioned in the other post/thread.

My Q is this. We have some ground work things to sort out. In front of our planned garage is a large void left to fill that needs to be level with the gravel part of the drive.

This void will take about 3 ton of T1 MOT whacker plate it down but would you also put old bricks from the rear wall in there as well. In my head I'm thinking they need to be broken up really small or just throw it all in and let the whacker machine deal with all of it ?. We've got a skip still on the drive so bigger bits can go in there.

Or no bricks? just ballast then whacker the Type 1 MOT on top ?

In the end it will have a gravel top surface. Bricklayer will be laying guttering along the edge.

Many thanks
