Filling a fan hole

I am fitting a cooker hood and so removing the ceiling fan, which was pretty useless.
So there is a 4-5" circular hole to fill in the ceiling.
Assuming a round section of plasterboard is cut and ready to fit in the hole, I would appreciate advice on how to fix the plasterboard in place.
Above the plasterboard is 4" of Celotex and then 18mm chipboard flooring in the loft.
I have some Promix light to smooth it in.

Also just wondering. The kitchen was dry lined but not skimmed and I painted straight onto the plasterboard. Does skimming make a difference?

Push a piece of thin ply or similar up thru the hole, long enough that it spans both sides of the hole. Screw thru the gyproc into each side thus securing it to the existing ceiling, then screw your newly cut gyproc circle to it.

Painting gyproc is fine, a lot of new builds are gyproc only without skim. Might be better with a mist coat first tho.
