Having fitted a new shower, replacing external piping by plumbing through a stud wall, I find myself with a 3cm x 3cm hole in my coving (with nothing behind it except the loft).

Does anyone have any suggestion on how I can do that?

Thanks,

Craig

If you can access the loft, tape a piece of stiff card behind the 'hole' return to the bathroom and fill the space with some polystyrene, shape it to the contour of the coving, fill the gaps with 'coving adhiesive/filler', smooth off, allow to dry. you will probably have to re-fill as the 'filler will shrink a bit then sand and paint.

The best way is to cut a piece of card, cereal box or similar, a little larger than the hole. Put a small hole through the middle and thread some thin string or thread through the hole and tie.

Fold the piece of cardboard in half and feed through the hole, then holding onto the tread to enable the cardboard to provide a backing start to apply your filler. Fill as BoDon indicated, don't worry about making it perfect with the first fill because it will need a second fill anyway.

mix up some bonding compound quite stiff and fill, let it set and patch up with filler and sand.
