Have just bought a circa 1900 property. It's not really been looked after and is covered in overpainted woodchip everywhere.

Started removing the paper around the wooden window frames. It's coming off really easily but was hiding gaps between the window frames and the interior walls.

(I've got a feeling the woodchip will be hiding all sorts of nasties)

I think the walls will need to be skimmed as they look unfinished, but what is the correct material to use to fill the gaps between the wall and the wooden frames? Can I just use normal polyfilla or do I need a more specialist material that will take into account the wood shrinking and expanding?

any advice very gratefullly received/

If the gap is only about 4 or 5 mm then decorators caulk would do, but any bigger will need a hard filler.
