Prepping my spare room for painting this weekend and I'm wondering how to deal with this crack (two pictures of same crack below).

I suspect but do not know that it's where two plasterboards meet (stud wall) - for a random crack elsewhere on a wall I would normally gouge out a small v shape and fill (I tend to use fibacryl for first fill then top with toupret normal as I find that actually stops most cracks coming back), but I'm a little worried that I could make the problem worse if I dig it out a bit as it's clearly a weak join?

Re-plastering is not an option, I'm either gonna try filling or just leave it and accept my newly painted walls will have a crack. Any thoughts or advice?

If you aren't comfortable taping and skimming the join again, then it may simply be a rub down and fill. There is a good chance the paint will fill that.

i agree paint could fill it light rubdown the high bits. Or you could use your finger to fill then scrap off with finger to match texture.

Presumably the crack will reappear pretty quickly in this case though?
