rewired my house last dec with an electrician friend of mine. used a wylex c/u and but not rcd protected. ("i visit customers every day whos rcd's have tripped because one of their appliances is more than 10 minutes old and you dont want your freezer defrosting all over your kitchen while you're on holiday and the decaying meat stinking the place out do you???" were his words or something to that effect) Anyway, I trust his experience and work I promise, I'm just a bit concerned about the regs and whether this installation complies?

nb, there is power to the brick shed which is protcted by an rcbo.

any input appreciated

Only mandatory on sockets which might reasonably power equipment used outdoors. Or something to that effect. There is an issue about whether people might plug in an extension lead downstairs and feed it through the window to the garden. Becomes a matter of opinion whether one is required or not, but general advice would be to have one. Some people get round the freezer issue by using a separate non-rcd circuit for this.

You are most likely within the letter of the regulations and certainly in no worse position than most of the country.

Only recommended by the Wiring Regs on sockets etc etc.

So your friend hasn't led you anywhere illegal, but I'm sorry to inform you that he isn't very good at his job, he's got a cavalier attitude to the safety of his installations, he's used the mother of all sledgehammers to crack the nut of the fridge/RCD problem, and I doubt that given Part P of the building regulations he can continue to work legally any more without involving Building Control in anything major.

No you dont, but how about a split load cu?

Could he not have put in a seperate circuit for the freeezer/fridge?
