Finishing mdf

Looking at making a mdf table top and was wondering how to finish it. Ideally a stain and varnish. Any better suggestions. It will be used as a pc table.
 
There is no point staining and varnishing MDF as it is not wood. It is just man made board made from compressed sawdust. Just prime it and paint it.

If you want a wood look buy a veneered sheet.
