Changing over some smoke detectors, current detectors are wired up as follows:

Incoming Live =L1 IN
Outgoing Live =L1 OUT
With both Neutrals in Terminal = -R

But the wiring diagram with the new detectors shows both Neutrals going to L2. And '-R' has no connection.

Can someone please tell me why this is and what '-R' terminal is,thanks!

The R termina is for a remote LED - the other side of the LED will connect to the L2 (0v).

Are you changing these detectors because they do not work? If so, it is pretty obvious they are incorrectly wired.

Is there a log book on site showing the testing logs?

The old panel has been taken out and is being replaced,no log book or any data available so dont know if it ever worked. The layout of the building has changed and a new system is to be installed. Some of the existing wiring is being utilized as the location of some detectors are the same. Also the sounders are being replaced with Flashtone (LED) which have tone and flash terminals,so im guessing the flash terminals are for a external flash beacon?
