Quick Question:

Picture a new (tin shed) warehouse, with office space on a 1st floor mezanine. There is a fire escape door with stairs at the rear (outside), from the first floor mezzanine to the ground.

Can electrical equipment such as an AC compressor be placed directly under the fire escape stairs on the ground? I seem to remember there is a regulation against this but not 100% sure. Personally I think its a bad idea but wanted to check.

Sorry I cannot tell you of any reg. but would have thought it common sense that in the event of a fire any escape route should be free from any potential obstruction & the potential for a compressor tank exploding in the event of a fire (even with pressure relief valves fitted) or even starting a fire, is not something I nor I suspect the fire brigade would be happy about. It sounds almost as bad as storing gas bottles under the stairs. :(

thanks I will keep searching for an applicable reg. The reason I ask is that I was at the job in question the other day and x2 Compressor units have been placed under the stairs serving AC to the first flooor. I quoted for the job initially but didnt get the work some other bozo installed it and I was thinking thats not right.
