i have an inlaid gas fire the ones with fake coals, can i take the gas part away and put in an open coal fire , my real problem is that it is not the solid fire bricks at the back but some other material which looks like brick asbestos or something, not sure. thanks .

thats probably a chair brick at theback. is it angled and bellied out near the top.
