Hi
Looking for all your expert opinions

I am having a new gas fire installed in a couple of weeks by a registered installer, but to cut on down on costs I was looking to construct a new opening. Here is the problem I currently have a conventional coal effect fire, but replacing with an Infinity 890CF which requires an oblong shape opening and would sit approx 15-20 from the ground. I can brick up to the correct height and make the width to the correct size, what would be the best way to make a shelf or the gas fire to sit on?

Thanks in advnace
(hope I've explained it well enough)
