Commercially, Nullifire is used which is an Intumescent Coating mainly used on all steelwork within commercial buildings like airports, supermarkets, factories etc. Thick stuff to put on too !!

We used Nullifire on the steel in a huge factory new build in Devon, this was around 1982 and I think it was new stuff back then, we had to use a micrometer to measure the thickness of the paint to ensure it would work in the event of a fire. As it happens the place burned down a few years later but all the steel structure remained intact, good stuff Nullifire.

Yep, has to be a certain thickness which they are quite keen on !!! not nice stuff to use to be honest.

Crown do two brands Thermo Guard for wood, also Timonox which is a fire retardant emulsion.
