Fire Surround and Electric Fire

Looking for some advice.

1 - Fitting a wooden fire surround and hearth. How do you attach the hearth
to the wall?

2 - There was a gas fire there before that has been professionally removed does the flue have to have a vent fitted or can it be totally boarded up? It is a plug in electric fire that is replacing it.

Any help appreciated

Hearth sits on the floor? not fixed to wall.
Chimney needs vent to prevent damp.

Thought that about the vent.

The hearth is wooden so not very heavy, I know the fire place sits on the heart but will the weight of it be enough for it not to move if it is hit accidently or something?

A few blobs of adhesive will keep it in place.
