I am about to re-make a hearth to take a stove. I have dug out down to soil level and blinded over with sand, and my next step is to put in insulation onto a tanked DPC liner, in order to lay a concrete base up to screed level. What are the current regs. re insulation in this situ, please.
I have seen a Marmox insulation board that claims to take concrete load. Or is it 'okay' just to use 2" polystyrene board eg? Hearth is on an outside (single brick) chimney-wall, 1908 cavity-wall property, suspended original timber floorboards. Thanks indeed.

Considering the age and construction of the property I can see no reason to insulate at all...putting in a membrane against damp is more than would have been there originally..and you would have a small insulated island in a sea of draughty flooring :!:
