Will be looking for a new surround sson, seen alot of limestone and marble ones

are these any good and are they stain resistant and durable?

Opinions please and any help with sourcing one at a good price

i use both marble and limestone.

the only thing on limestone is that it's easily stained and needs sealing. i buy the sealer from my local fire shop (AKEMI Triple Effect Counter Refresher).

both then are equally durable and choice down to personal taste. i think the limestone probably looks the best but it's really down to matching the mantle and getting the overall look right.

Can you recommend any places for fire surrounds that are valve for money.

had a look at the link and fireplace looks good.

the last limestone we bought including wooden mantle was 280 (180 limestone, 100 mantle).

our approach on finding supplier has been to visit many local fire shops buy looking them up out of the phone book. most were no good (too pricey or not willing to supply only). we did eventually find a good shop which we now use (link below for comparison). the advantage of the local shop is delivery at £10.

any idea whats the Chepstow costs?

don't know the various prices. i tend to go for what's on offer.

the backplate & hearth of the chepstow looks pretty much what we tend to buy. we always put a wooden mantle on though down to preference (the fire needs to sit well into the existing room).

the mantle part of the chepstow looks about same as our wood mantle and based on stone being more expensive would estimate say £400.
