Hi all

I'm hoping someone can offer me some advice. I've started knocking out my fireplace in the hope of getting a wood burning stove fitted. The bricks are coming away quite easily and the original lintel seems quite solid. But I'm quite confused by the amount of bricks within the opening. There appears to be 2 significant layers of bricks that form two chambers, one above the other. I think these must have been installed for a back boiler or something like that but thought I should get some other opinions to ensure that it's definitely not there to correct some old structural issueswith the chimney breast. I have included some diagrams and pictures. Hopefuly this all makes sense and some of you can offer me some good advice.

If more pictures or videos would help please let me know

Thanks in advance

Richard

OP,
You open up according to the stove Mfr's installation dimensions.
The brickwork that concerns you can be removed. So can the filler brickwork either side of the opening.
Why not search some of my back posts on how to open up chimney breasts & install stoves?
