Hi all

First post :) (been lurking for a long time though)

OK so i bought a fire place with gas fire:

Gallery Collection Bowland (should look like this)

But when the surround is fitted it had a rebate and thus look like :

Basically there is a gap between the back panel and the upstands, so i understand i need to move the back panel forward so it is flush against the upstand but that leaves me with a gap at the back between the chimney breast wall and the back panel which needs filling, the gap is 50mm.

i was thus wondering what to fill the gap with? (costs and where to buy from would also be really helpful)

Thanking you in advanced

Would strongly recomend you get a registered gas fitter to do the job. Using timber is a NO NO

Get Some Wood And Choc It Up On The Back
Wood is combustible material; not only a NO NO but against Building Regs. Installing anything other than a decorative effect fire is goverened by Building Regs. & gas cannot be DIY installed; is the flue suitable for the fire you’ve installed?

HI

gazfen you should not give advice to others if you are not aware or the rules.wood is not allowed when is so close.

My gas fitter is fitting this, has him flummoxed as well.

The flue is fine, i am aware that the back panel should be flush as it part of the flue/chimney system and am also aware that wood pieces are a no, no  .

Would fireboard be ok though? the problem with this though is the thickness, another thing is Fire Batt as seen here http://www.fireprotectiononline.co.uk/shop/fire-batt.html

would this work/be ok?

Imran why does you installer not call Gas Safe Register and check with them what material to use in this case. Your comments suggest either it is a DIY instal or is being fitted by someone who claims to be a gas installer. Either case could lead to injury or fatality.

Suggest you check his gas card at the back to see if he can instal fires.

No the gas fitter is registered, good call on the Gas Safety Register - i'll ask him to do it.

But any other ideas would be useful.

Imran....don't try to kid us....either your gas fitter is incompetant or you are doing illegal gas work........don't waste our time, you won't be told how to do it

still half cut wasnt looking at it properely just saw the glass screen
