hi there and thanks in anticipation

as part of refurbishment a victorian conversion flat I removed the boarding in a chimney breast and behind it is a lovely original fireplace.

only issue is that in removing the boarding it has pulled off a bit of paint and a small bit of the fireplace surround. See photos attached

I assume I need to use some sort of filler to replace/make it square again then can paint over till level with current paint layer then paint the whole surround

please can one of you advise if this is right (or if not advise me what to do) and what sort of filler to use?

Thanks a lot

David

I came across one similar to that and it was made from asbestos plaster. Will take the heat of a real fire.
Go careful with it.

Fill with toupret powder in a few goes to built out I guess

I would use filler but in addition, scrape back the paint and a mm or so depth of existing then use mesh tape to provide a good joint. Otherwise it is likely that the join between the new and old will always show with a crack.
