Hi.
I need some advice regarding a fireplace installation. I have an existing electric fireplace with surround that is covering up my chimney. I would like to put in its place a gas fire. However i have been told that not all electric fire surrounds are suitable for gas fire. Could someone perhaps advise me how i can find out if mine is suitable and if its not how i can make it so that it is.

Thanks
:D

if you get someone to estimate for fitting your gas fire they should be able to say if your surround is suitable, basicaly fireproof within certain distances depending on the fire , your main problem should be is the flue up to standard or can it be made upto standard, again get an estimate. a fire is a lot harder to install than say a combi as far as safety and regs go, if you get it wrong you have an expensive Co machine.
