Evening all,

I am looking to replace the mantle and surround around our gas fireplace. I want to build an oak surround and mantle to match the doors and other woodwork.

I have had a google but cant find any guidance on what treatments are required (if any) to make it fire retardant, or what the minimum clearance should be between the fire and the surround.

Would appreciate some advice. The other woodwork is oak with a french polish finish.

Thanks in advance.

What are MIs? It was already installed when we moved in 4 years ago.

Have you had it serviced since you moved in? if not, please do so... and then you can ask the RGI about surrounds.
Also get a Carbon Monoxide alarm in the room. That's my advice.
