Hi. I've posted this in the building section but had no replies so thinking maybe a gas plumber may have installed a few fire places and may be able to help.

I'm fitting a new limestone mantle and cast insert and looking for advice on how to fit it. I'm not doing any gas work, this will be a gas safe plumber.

When installing the limestone surround should I take the plaster off and fit it directly to the bricks or can I fit direct on the plaster?

The cast insert... Is this simply put in place and held in by the fire surround or is this fixed in some way?

Any other tips would be great.

Thanks in advance....

Firstly, do nothing until you have an RGI advise you. You normally have to get the gas pipe into the right position before fitting the fireplace. He will then be able to advise on next course of action.

I assume you've bought it off the 'net? If you had bought from a proper shop they would have been able to advise.
