Hello all, so.....just bought our first house, 1930's semi. Pulled up carpets in bedroom upstairs with hope of renovating floorboards and having lovely wooden boards. I have revealed a concrete hearth (read plenty about removing that on other posts) a few off the shelf spruce boards that need replacing and a random fixing that I am trying to identify so my questions for you are
1.What is this fixing?
2.Could I grind the top of it down a few mm to go flush with replacement floorboards
3. (Bonus point) what type of boards are they? You can see where I sanded a little by hand. I think pine or douglas fir, got some samples.coming but help appreciated....
Thank you in advance. I'm very new to.home ownership but have a decent set of DIY skills and a willingness to learn so forgive me if these seem like daft questions! Cheers - Nick
