I would like to put down some new pine floorboards over an existing floor.
The old boards are old and worn and not suitable for sanding.
I cannot lift them and replace so is it possible to lay new t&g pine boards over the old flooring if so how to fix just screw trough ?
Its in an old cottage so laminate etc is not suitable must be pine etc.
Any advice / suggestions please.

sounds like a recipe for serious creaking! maybe that suits an old cottage though??

If you plan to install new boards in the same direction of the old boards you have to board over first with hardboard or plywood to tackle any unevenness in the existing floorboards.

If your new boards have T&G you can install them floating ontop of foam underlayment (best not to use screws in any wood floor).

I overboarded my lounge, cross boarded the old [screwed down to prevent squeaks] and then pinned the t&g [secret nailing] no visible fixings.
