First time with levelling compound

I've just used a levelling compound for the first time and didn't do too well at first. The instructions said don't mix more than you can use in 10 minutes which frightened me, so I mixed a small amount - mistake! I managed to level a small patch and by the time I'd mixed and applied a larger amount what I'd achieved was two very distinct patches with gaps and overlaps. In the end I learned that 10 minutes is a long time and that the key skill is careful, accurate pouring to minimize the amound of work needed with the float.

An earlier post on this subject said to aim for the consistency of custard.

How did your best mix compare with that?

is that school custard or Grannies custard? I seem to remember a big difference in consistency between these

My mix was thicker than I prefer my custard. I'll try it thinner next time!
