Fitting a door which is too tall

Hi everyone,

I've just purchased a house and the door is broken (plastic snapped at locking point).

Because the door has sidelights and a top light, it would cost me a small fortune to replace brand new which I can't afford right now.

I have found a second hand door on ebay with sidelights. The total measurements make it slightly too small in width (5cm), but I understand this is not a huge issue and I can fill the gap with add ons or timber.

My real problem is that it is approx 3cm too tall (including sill) to fit into the gap. How would I go about making the gap larger so that the door would fit?

There is probably plasterboard covering the lintle.

Do you need the cill?....usually 30mm high...

What exactly is broken on the door, Can you post a pic?
