My wife bought this which requires an earth to be fitted. The current light has only got live and neutral wires. I haven't a clue about electrics so any help would be appreciated. I did look behind the switch cover and noticed there was an earth there if that helps. Thanks.

if it needs an earth then it needs to have an earth, if you dont feel confident to take it any further call an electrician, it may be something more serious

Is it connected to the earth terminal in the CU?

If it is, you could run a seperate earth wire in close proximity to the cable carrying L & N to the fitting. If the cpc (earth wire) in the switch is not connected to earth then you should consider a rewire. You should not fit a Class I fitting to a supply with no earth.
