Hi guys, I recently noticed that my bathroom door lock didn't feel quite right and I was concerned maybe it was getting worn. So I've decided to replace it.

I purchased this lock and fitted it today...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004ULJR72/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The only issue now is the previous lock 'rod' which has a small handle and nut on each end is not fitting securely. The handle (which is like a T shape item) doesn't stay on the end of the rod, I'm not sure how to make it stay.

I am concerned that it will come off and someone will end up locked in the bathroom!

So...If anyone has any advice I'd be really grateful.

I assume I might need to purchase a new lock "rod" and small handle set but I'm not sure where to get it from? Also when I do get it, how do I ensure the rod and handle fit securely.

Please excuse if this isn't clear, I'm not sure what the right terminology is.

I'm hoping this image may help...

the "handle" appears to be broken, though it might have a tiny grubscrew to grip the squared shaft.

You can get a new one. It's called a Bathroom Thumbturn usually, though some people call it a Turn and Release. It comes in a set with the outside release button.

Your lock will probably take a quarter-inch spindle though they are also available in three-eights IIRC. Measure the square in your lock to make sure. Your advert listing does not seem to say.

Here's an example. Prices vary.

They are easier to grip when the "T" is larger, especially with wet hands.

How did you get the knob off the rod?

I’ve not made a point of studying these things, but mine has one end permanently fixed and the other has a grub screw.

the fixed steel end might have been bashed into the brass button in the factory. You could try heat and impact.

When the knob has a circlip retaining it in the rose, the knob will not come off.
