Fitting a Shower

I have been reading the information on this site and wondered if anyone can give a reason for the following when plumbing in a shower?

'If the hot supply is to be taken from the cylinder distribution pipe the connection point should ideally be made above the height of the cylinder top. '

Why above the cylinder?

Just interested.

i dont know either, but i presume that as hot water rises that would be the besr place to get hot water from. the top
