Fitting electric fire with granite slips

I have bought an electric fire and 4 made to measure granite slips, which should fit perfectly as per the photo.

The fireplace shop said fitting them was difficult and my builder doesn't fancy it....what am I missing?

How could I fit the slips around the fireplace and fix them in to the reccess?
