Fitting limestone fire surround

Hi all,


I want to install a limestone fire surround around a wood burner.

The chimney Brest is currently boarded and ready for skim, can anyone advise me whether the surround is fitted before the wall is skimmed or after ?

I cannot find anything on here or the manufactures website

Traditionally it would be fitted before plastering, otherwise you'll end up with a variable gap between the surround and the wall surface which will look silly and 'glued on'. (On the other hand, many modern fire surrounds look so awful that maybe it's better not to install them 'permanently'!)
Might be a good idea to put tape around the surround to protect it from wet plaster, then you can cut round it with a sharp blade and peel off once the plaster is dry.

Yes this is what I thought, and makes the most sense.

Just that I cannot find any instructions what so ever.
