I'm thinking of replacing my old handrail and board, but the bottom newel post that I have seems quite short in comparison to the spindles that I want to fit. Does anyone know if it is easy to remove the newel base post or if there is such a thing as an extension as looking at it, it looks difficult to remove post as staircase comes around it slightly!
