Hi all,

I'm planning on refitting some of the pipework in my crawlspace supplying 3 radiators - I've been doing some wiring down there, and there seems to be one helluva lot of redundant pipes from old radiators that were removed. I'm also planning on fitting TRVs which will need new tails, so I thought I may as well fit new pipework down there while I'm at it.

Initially I was thinking copper, but due to the number of obstacles to go round, and there only being only 3 radiators, I'm now thinking plastic, specifically this stuff:

http://www.screwfix.com/prods/11027...JG-Speedfit-BPEX-Barrier-Coil-Pipe-25m-x-15mm

But I do have a few questions I would really appreciate some help with!

1. Is this stuff the right kind of thing to use with a combi boiler central heating setup?

2. If I have an existing stash of 15mm compression fittings, can I use these existing fittings with the plastic pipe if I use the right pipe inserts?

3. How big is a reel? Is it something that would be easy to get on public transport?

4. Am I okay to feed 3 radiators with this diameter pipe?

Many thanks in advance guys,

Russ

It's OK, a recent discussion on these forums seems to indicate that Hep2o is generally preferred over Speedfit. Copper is still the best thing to use though

2. If I have an existing stash of 15mm compression fittings, can I use these existing fittings with the plastic pipe if I use the right pipe inserts?
You could do, it's better to use the proper fittings though (and bear in mind the inserts are different for compression fittings to the ones for push-fit fittings when using Speedfit...with Hep2o it's the same ones for both)

3. How big is a reel? Is it something that would be easy to get on public transport?
About three feet across

4. Am I okay to feed 3 radiators with this diameter pipe?
Depends on the size of the radiators, if they're small then it'll be fine, if they're medium/large I personally wouldn't feed more than two off 15mm

Many thanks in advance guys,

Russ

15,000btu sounds good news - I did a quick calculation and I think the 3 rads came to around 12,500btu. :D
