When re-connecting the water feeds it would be easier of course to replace the solid pipes with flexible - but I wonder if removing the rigidity of the old fixed copper pipes will allow the sink too much flexing when the new tap is fitted.

It is difficult to know if the steel of the sink is rigid enough on its own to keep the tap solidly in place? Will it flex too much without the restraint of rigid pipes?

It's just a normal sink, nothing unusual.

Anybody got experience of this Before I cock it up please?

It will wobble on a thin steel sink. There is a plate you can get to spread the load and make it more rigid, but I'm struggling to remember what it's called
