Can anyone tell me if a new D/G unit will fit in behind the stone work on this window or will i have to cut the window to fit. The problem area is at the top of the window.

Would i order the window to be a touch narrower than normal as well ?

I wouldn't think it would be possible to 'hinge' the new window into place behind those stone corbels.....looks a bit tight!
I would have the new window made to the same size as the existing one.....cut back the mastic / sealant and take the measurement from there.
Whats the interior decoration like, at the inside head of the window?
John :)

If i have to damage the internal plaster work then i can do this no problem as i can replaster up. This is my house.

I would have thought the current window will be bigger than what the eye sees at present. If i make mine 10mm shorter on the width this should allow me to get it into a position.

if you are not bothered about damaging inside then take it out and refit new one from inside. if it sits behind stone work then it is easier this way measure same as existing and order with large outer frame 70mm so openers will not foul on corbels and you will have more frame to seal against

The window would be the right size to fit the opening but it looks like the fanlight would need to be smaller then the norm.
I would get a DG window surveyor round to do the measuring and sizing that way they are in the know as to what can be done
It maybe that you will have two "fillet" strips to the verticals of the new DG unit so that the fanlight can be made to the same eyeline of the fixed window

thanks for info. Didnt know you can get bigger frames made. Is this ther same as adding the fillets on ?

Pretty much, although add ons come in different sizes dependant on the profile used and whats needed, a large outer frame will look better, it's basically a 70mm door section as opposed to a 50-60mm window section.
