Need to fit a tap hole stopper in kitchen sink

Can a plumber confirm that my fitting method is okay

1. Apply a thin bead of clear silicone to underside of chrome tap stopper (1)

2. Put the rubber foam (2) on top of the white plastic part (3) and just twist screw to tighten.

Have i got this right?

Why the need for silicone?
I thought that silicone would be use to ensure that no water gets underneath the stopper and to prevent any movement?

Also i thought that plumbers use silicone for everything i.e. to basically prevent a call back from the client?

So are you saying that this is not necessary?

Just put the chrome cap above the sink. The put the foam rubber on top if the white plastic part and twist to tighten?

The seal goes between the chrome and sink top, with the plastic screwed on beneath. But your method with silicone will be fine ,either way will prevent water passing through.

Could do the rubber seal either way I guess, if it's quite thin though I'd probably put it on the chrome cap side of the sink. Silicone will actually promote movement as it's being tightened. A little silicone on the plastic washer underneath couldn't hurt though

So

1. chrome and seal on top

2. plastic screwed underneath.

Bead of silicone on top of the plastic is optional

To be honest, if silicone is not needed, i will skip it as silicone always makes removal a pain in the...

Thanks guys.

Only one’s who either a) do it for belt and braces, even when not require, or b) if the seal provided is insufficient or missing.
