What's the best way to fit exterior window shutters made from floorboards?

Waddya reckon? Cranked hinges? What's the usual method?

I suppose it all depends on the detail of your window openings, as foxy says there is no "usual" method.
Perhaps a piccy or more info may help.

Shutters made of floorboards are dead common - traditional external shutters. You see them on cottages everywhere.

I know the sort of things you mean, Joe although they properly described as being made from matchboard rather than floorboards and very often have heart or diamond shaped cut outs. Matchboard is very similar to floorboard , bothT&G but the former has a vee joint.
From what I've seen they are commonly fitted with some sort of tee hinge although wheather straight or cranked depends on the detail of where they are fitted in relation to the window and reveal.
