Fixing a step

Once of the treads on my staircase has fallen through. I suspect this happened be uses the tread was only ever initially nailed up from the bottom. So the tread had no structural support as such.

I have one support joist going onto a steel and another support joist going into the brick wall. It is the tread between these two joist I am trying to fix back with correct support.

The steel is slightly too high for the tread to sit on. I'd like some advice please.

You could get a steel flange/bracket made up to fit to the underside (drilled holes, bolt and nuts?) bent to suit the level of the tread, and fix it that! ...pinenot

You could rebate the edge of the tread to sit on the steel and then screw from below [screws will give good support].
