Once of the treads on my staircase has fallen through. I suspect this happened be uses the tread was only ever initially nailed up from the bottom. So the tread had no structural support as such.

I have one support joist going onto a steel and another support joist going into the brick wall. It is the tread between these two joist I am trying to fix back with correct support.

The steel is slightly too high for the tread to sit on. I'd like some advice please.

You could get a steel flange/bracket made up to fit to the underside (drilled holes, bolt and nuts?) bent to suit the level of the tread, and fix it that! ...pinenot :)

You could rebate the edge of the tread to sit on the steel and then screw from below [screws will give good support].
