Fixing expanded metal lathing

I want to fix sheets of expanded metal to a rubble wall to help a render bond(the wall has some limewash).I intend to put dilute PVA on wall and fix the lathing mechanically using screws and washers.

What type,and size of screw would you suggest?

I plan to screw at 18"/45-50cm centres in a diamond pattern,then apply a 4:1 mix of sand and cement.

Use SBR not PVA as it is water soluble.

The work is inside but may use SBR with sand/cement slurry for a key.
