As the price of lead is expensive it seems the stepped flashing method has been replaced for just a single or double piece of lead.
I do understand that this is by now way the best but I can see where money comes into it.

In fact I have some flashing to do on my house and I was thinking about useing this method as it is cheaper.

Q.
I plan to still cut into the brick work and bend 25mm of lead into it as usual. This means I have to cut a groove al the way from the guttering to the apex through the brick and mortar.
How would you cut this groove I want it to be 25mm deep for the lead and about 7 meter long. would a big grinder with a stone cutting disk be suitable this only gets me about 3mm groove ??? and I really want 6-8mm

As i'm sure you can tell I'm no proffesional but i'm only after advice, any help would be grateful.

Thanks

a big grinder will cut a suitable deep groove
depending on location stepped flashing looks better

Thanks for your reply Larry

and great advice - I plan to use a grinder but its the thickness of groove that im unsure of.

I thought of putting two grinding discs in the grinder at once but this my be dangerious I would then get a groove thickness of about 6mm

What do you think

Well you could cut two grooves, and snap the ridge out, if it's wider it doesn't cost a lot to fill! Or you could use a grinding disc, which is thicker!
I'd use a 115 or 125mm grinder. Any bigger is a bit of a handful on a roof.
In fact I wouldn't - step flashing is quick easy and has stood the test of time.
