Fixing to mortar or stone

Hey I have some drown pipes to put up, my question is when drilling and screwing to fix the clips. Should I drill and plug the mortar or the stone?

The brick will give a better fixing but the mortar is easier to drill.....normally.

Yes, as long as the mortar stands up when you drill it, sometimes it crumbles when drilled.

If the screw goes tight your ok.

Much better to drill the stonework. Mortar will eventually crumble and cause the down pipes to work loose.
