Hi,

Can you use normal screws to attach a toilet bracket to the floor?

The screws that have come with the bracket are 6cm long, and will be too long as i only have about 3cm flooring underneath and the screws will just go through the floor.

I was just going to find some shorter ones but wasn’t sure if they had to be a particular type?

Many thanks

You need the floor covering down first .Chipboard rots quickly when wet, I inherited a toilet falling thru chipboard, needs protection before securing then the brackets can’t get wet and your floor won’t rot.

I find that most screws and plugs that come with various fittings are rubbish and most of the time I use my own

If you can replace the P5 with something else in the bathroom, or at least around the toilet. Don't know why that stuff passes regs as I've had to repair too many floors where it has invariably rotted out around the bath/shower and toilet.

6mm brass screws as a min and use a couple with washers. These plastic side fittings are a terrible way to secure a toilet, they need to come up with something better TBH. The other thing I've done if there's access & floor type dependent, is lift the floor section where the toilet will sit and fit batons below where the screws will go.
