As I said a support of this sort would have cost more, not matched the pipe of or the existing bracket, and probably not have worked unless it matched the pipe diameter by chance.
I really don't like to be rude but your ignorance is matched by your arrogance. You have made up the "slab of manky old plywood" crack out of whole cloth.
And I described your idea of throwing away a perfectly good fitting to buying & installing a non-matching one (that may well not work) as ridiculous because it is. The fact that you did not dispute my comment but responded with unfounded abuse says a lot about you.
I'm quite impressed at the level of entitlement, rudeness and ignorance displayed by the OP towards a number of people who have offered sound advice out of the goodness of their hearts and the benefit of their experience.
Don't bother replying, unless it's an apology towards the community - your rudeness towards others trying to help you is breathtaking - I imagine a number of others will be, as I am, just hitting the ignore button right now.
