I have a flat roof ajoining a pitched roof over my kitchen. The flat roof is newer and was built like this:

------------------------------------/
----------------------------------/
--------------------------------/
------------------------------/
================OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
==================_________________

Where:
O is the old insulation above the kitchen ceiling.
= is the newer flat roof
P is the flat roof insulation (looks like polystyrene? PIR?)
___ is the ceiling

Note that there is now no eves on that side of the roof, as the flat roof has covered it.

I have now taken away the kitchen ceiling so the kitchen is opened into the pitched roof, and was going to insulate like this:

------------------------------------/ N/
----------------------------------/ N/
--------------------------------/ N/
------------------------------/ N/
================ N/
PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP N/
==================

Where
N is new insulation, covered by plastic sheeting and plasterboard.

I was going to leave a 50mm gap behind the insulation for air circulation, but is there any point, because there are no eves?

On the other (right hand) pitch, there is an eves, so circulation is possible.

Do I need air circulation on that left hand side?

The pitched roof is about 6 feet high covering and area 11ft x 8ft.

if the flat roof has a 'warm deck' then it won't need ventilating.

the pitched roof can be vented by using tile vent terminals.
