Flat Roof Timber - Can It Get Wet?

Hi all,
Is there any issue with the wall plate and roof joists getting wet during construction? Say it rains overnight etc…

it happens all the time with site construction

Ive seen jobs get absolutely soaked

its not ideal, but no it doesnt matter

and in fact using tarps can make things worse -the water often gets underneath and then doesnt dry

If the timber is getting wet, then so are the walls, and that's a no-no.

Yes, within a year or so.

Unlike timber, the walls will not warp or rot.

No. It will soon dry. The secret is managing any project through bad weather. It's practically impossible to prevent all rain from reaching the structure whilst under construction. But you can be savvy about how it dries out after.

Yes. Even in the depths of winter. We build all year round and face adverse weather often. As Woods says you need to try and keep dry the walls and insulation. We grab all sorts of bits and pieces (timber, spare roof tiles, polythene, section of dry valley) to use as an umbrella whilst we are building...
