Some nights in our garden the flies, or perhaps more specifically midges/greenfly are unbearable. I did the obvious and bought some citronella T lights and they made little difference. I've seen the silver can things with wicks sticking out of that you fill with some kind of oil. Are these any better ? Has anyone found something that works better ?

can of hairspray and a lighter = home made flame thrower....
gets rid of columns of midges great..
those oil burners just burn citronella again..
might sound like a stupid idea, but they don't like moving air, so a couple of fans should keep them away..
