Can anyone advise what type of washer this float valve takes? It has no make or model name on it. Or can the hole cartridge that the washer screws out with be bought?

Thanks I inspected the washer and it seemed ok. I was expecting it to be split?

The washers tend to harden over time - should be very pliable

One final question when filling abit of water comes out of were the nut is that you undo to get to the washer. Any reason for this?

Either the washer is not seating properly or the backnut isn't quite tightened up fully

The washer as in the one you gave me the link for? Or the other washer, theres a small circle one with a hole in that is between the nut and valve.

Likely to be the washer (with a hole in it) rather than the diaphragm washer (the big one without a hole)

Yes - but size varies dependent on float-valve manufacturer.

I've boxes of different sized washers and it's pot luck.

Clean up the faces of valve where the washer sits - it's unlikely that the washer is damaged.

Thanks but the diaphragm washer is kind of generic and fits most float valve manufacturers?

But don't get a specialist diaphragm washer (Torbek etc) as these work on a different (equilibrium) principle to shut off the flow
