must admit, it may be sound silly, but I never been asked to do something like that and I just wondered whether it will work; a standard halogen floodlight to be controlled by a dimmer switch. I will be grateful if some one done it and can give a feedback .

Thanks

bad bad bad idea..

halogens don't like being dimmed and doing so will greatly reduce the lifetime of the lamp..

not only that the colour temp will vary imensly, (when its dimmed it will turn yellow / orange

The point of dimming such a lamp eludes me, but yes, it will work.

Just make sure your dimmer is TH rated or derated ie a 1kW dimmer.

Thanks to all of you with the good advice,
The reason the customer wants this type of option is because he wants to have the lights on for lets say; BBQ etc, and he said that what will happen if the light is too bright ,or the light is not bright enough, I suggested to get a 500W light and than if it is too bright we can change the bulb to 300W. He came with the dimmer idea because he has a friend that have this option....

I think that the message is clear; it is possible but not a good idea, if I would
do it I would use a 1Kw dimmer.

What does TH stand for?

Thanks again
