Flooded Patio | Drainage Options

Hello fellas,

I’ve got a little issue in my back garden and rather fix the drainage issue before I set out grid mesh with gravels,

I’m lifting the council slabs and levelling them towards the drainage. There’s no drainage there , just a square cover that leads to manhole.


Based on your opinion, what would the best solution to fix this once for all?
1. Shall I just swap the square drainage to a drainable one after adjusting the slabs towards it? I’m going to grind the concrete floor a bit to make sure the water is not going towards the flat.

2. Hire a builder and tidy up the mess. If that’s the case, would you explain the job so I have a better understanding of what needs to be done? It could be something I can manage myself. Would you suggest a drainage across my pathway?

The square cover might be an untrapped rodding point, which would mean you can’t just stick a grid on as you’d get smells coming up. Can’t quite work out where the slabs come into it if you’re having gravel? Can you just build the lower corner up a bit with some mortar and cause it to drain off somewhere else like onto a bed, rather than pool there?
Or drill some drainage holes in the conc. slab at that low point, if it’s getting gravelled over

Square cover looks like it may be a cleaning access for the rainwater Gully, in which case you should be ok to alter it, if you are able to carefully remove the cover and frame and clean up the hopper, then a plastic grid may suffice to allow water to get away and keep rubbish/animals out.
