I need to fit a new floor onto existing floor joists. T & G chipboard seems to be fitted quite commonly nowdays so I am considering this. However, I was wondering if its acceptable to put down 18mm plywood instead? I have had issues with T&G boarding in the past - difficult to get access under the floor once its fitted and its just not got the strength of a nice piece of plywood.

Any comments?

As long as all joints are supported, screw every 200mm, no probs.

Thanks for replies.

Not sure exactly which flavor of ply to go with. It's not a wet area so I wont need WBP which I now think is called grade 3 ply? I definately won't be using shuttering ply though - nasty stuff.

We always bump down 18mm T&G pine floorboards. The advantage of these is you can remove them piecemeal should the need arise and they don't squeak.

Bump down - I`m sure you clamp them and nail properly
