Hi,

I have a sanded (by the previous owners) floor which is extremely draughty as the gaps have not been filled. I would like to fill the gaps between the floorboards using a combination foam filler topped off with sawdust/resin mix. I am only planning to lightly sand the floors therefore I will need sawdust from elsewhere to mix with the resin. Any suggestions on where to source pine sawdust? Is this something a timber merchant can supply or are there "specialist" suppliers?

Thanks in advance.

the only way to get a good match is to use sawdust from the boards you are filling, sanded the finer the better.
Most timber yards will sell bags of sawdust for next to nothing if not give it away, however this is mostly from sawing/planing so is nowhere near as fine as sanded dust

Thanks for all of you comments.

The gaps are approx 5-10mm. I'm not sure I understand the "ply under the floorboards" option. Are you suggesting that I lift the floor?

dick - with gaps that size consider closing them with timber slips, long lengths of thin wooden strips glued in. We use this method often to do this type of repair but we make our slips tapered so when they drop into the gaps they can takeup a variety of gap widths. Any bit sticking-up proud of the floor can be planed off (or in your case planed then sanded). If you can't source matching coloured timber stain the slips to match before installation.
